Parent FAQ

Straightforward answers about the free lab, the star and fork, what happens to videos, and what we never do with your family’s data.

What we do not do

  • We do not charge for the lab
  • We do not keep student videos after you download them
  • We do not send lab content into AI models
  • We do not use participation data for advertising
  • We do not sell or share student-generated content

What you agree not to do

  • Do not sell or commercially exploit the witness videos
  • Do not enter the videos or lab materials into AI models
  • Do not reuse them outside private educational purposes
  • Do not use them for advertising or marketing
What we ask in return: A public GitHub star and a fork. That is the only consideration. It is how we track results and show that families are using the lab. Everything else is free.

Common questions

Is this really free?

Yes. There is no tuition or subscription fee for the standard 5-minute trainer and 5-minute advanced lab. The only thing we request is that you (or your student under your direction) star and fork the designated GitHub repository.

Why a star and a fork?

Those two public actions are how we measure participation and results. We are not selling data and we are not charging money. Parent support expressed as a star and a fork is what makes the free model work and lets us track that the lab is being used.

What if we use the lab and then delete the GitHub account or remove the star/fork?

That does not help our efforts at all. The star and fork are the entire return we ask for. If the account is deleted or the star/fork is removed after the lab is used, we lose the only lasting signal of support and participation. Our hope is that parents understand this and leave the star and fork in place as ongoing support for the free lab.

What do you keep about my student?

Long-term, almost nothing. After the parent download window, student videos and related session data are deleted from our servers on a fixed house clock. What we retain is the GitHub username and the record that a star and a fork occurred. We do not keep lasting student profiles or video archives.

What happens to the witness camera videos?

Two high-definition recordings are created so you can see the session. They are made available for you to download securely. After that opportunity (or after the short window set by our house clock), the videos are deleted from our side. They are for your educational record, not for our permanent storage.

Can I use the downloaded videos however I want?

Use them for your family’s private educational purposes — records, portfolios, internal homeschool documentation. Do not sell them, commercially exploit them, put them into AI models, or use them for advertising. The same restraint we apply on our side applies on yours.

Do you put lab data into AI systems?

No. We do not send student-generated lab content — even de-identified — into general-purpose AI models, third-party analytics products, or marketing systems. Lab participation data is used only for the educational function of the short robotics lab and the limited star/fork tracking described above.

Who is this for?

Independent, non-government-funded homeschool families. Parent or guardian consent is required. This edition is not built for public schools operating under FERPA institutional rules.

Where are the full legal terms?

The complete Terms of Use, parental consent language, data retention rules, and reciprocal restrictions are on the Legal page. By unlocking the lab you accept those terms on behalf of your student.
